Programmable atomic Large-Scale Quantum Simulation 2.1

Robert Bosch GmbH

The Corporate Sector Research and Advance Engineering of Robert Bosch GmbH (Bosch Research) is the innovation incubator at Bosch. The roughly 1,800 Bosch Research experts worldwide work with the Bosch business units to develop the next and future generations of Bosch products and services. Bosch Research also conducts research on important technological innovations at nine locations in six countries, together with scientific partners. The research is divided into six areas that will significantly shape our future: automation, digitalization and connectivity, artificial intelligence, electrification, climate action and sustainability, and healthcare. Under the guiding principle “We innovate for life,” Bosch Research creates technological solutions that will help to enhance people’s lives in tomorrow’s world.

At Bosch Research, atomistic simulations have been conducted for more than 15 years to strategically enhance advanced materials used in Bosch products across various application areas, with a focus on improving functionality, lifespan, and sustainability. Since 2018, Bosch has been exploring quantum computing to support, accelerate, and enhance material simulations, particularly through the development of new hybrid quantum-classical algorithms and by benchmarking different methods on various quantum computing platforms."

Role within PASQuanS 2

Bosch provides industrial use cases for materials simulation and actively contributes to benchmarking and assessing the potential of analog quantum devices to accelerate the design of complex materials.

Our vision for PASQuanS 2

Quantum technology is pushing the boundaries of what is possible — in the domains of computing as well as sensors. The result could be a European success story. Above all, the aim is to enhance the broad practical benefit of quantum effects — for everything from the development of CO2-neutral powertrains to neurological diagnostics. It is on applications such as these that Bosch researchers are working.
